The Language Center will custom design a program for expat adults, teenagers or children living in the city who want to commence their study of Indonesian, or develop their current level of Indonesian proficiency. Classes can be run at The Language Center or in peoples’ office or home. Frequency and length of tutorials is negotiable.

Introduction to Indonesian language and society

Introduction to Indonesian language and society – 4 weeks (40 hrs class, 20 hrs excursions)

Introductory course to give learners the overall framework in the Indonesian language. This course is particularly suited to those who may be interested in extended travel in Indonesia, or coming to do volunteer work in the country for a short-medium length of time.

Details: Details: 2 hours of class time per day, with approximately 2 hours out of class work to do in preparation for the following day. Each week also has a couple of excursions (accompanied by your tutor or staff of The Language Center) to interesting cultural and trade sites where learners have a chance to put their new language into practise!

Cultural Exposure

Survival Indonesian and Cultural Exposure – 2 weeks (20 hrs of class, 20 hrs excursions)

Crash course in Indonesian to give visitors the essentials in being able to speak basic Indonesian to street vendors, individuals and around tourist sites. 

Details: Details: 2 hours of class time per day, with approximately 2 hours out of class work to do in preparation for the following day. Class time is followed by excursions (accompanied by your tutor or Language Center staff) to interesting cultural and tourist sites around the city of Makassar where learners have a chance to put their language into practise!

Survival Indonesian

Survival Indonesian – 2 weeks (20 hrs of class) 

Crash course in Indonesian to give visitors the basics in spoken language so that they can interact with street vendors, taxi drivers and individuals they meet. A great start for those wanting to communicate with locals as they travel around Sulawesi or other parts of Indonesia.

Language Center

The Language Center at the State University of Makassar, South Sulawesi, runs courses for the general public wanting to study Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia) as a Foreign Language in-country.

Indonesian courses are offered both intensively and semi-intensively, and to groups or individuals. The program is communicative and flexible; using high quality written and recorded materials. The materials have been developed by a team of native speakers and experienced (non-native) Indonesian teachers. People learning Indonesian at the Language Center will be equipped to communicate effectively for social, professional and personal purposes.
