Australian Consul General Makassar Provides Studium Generale at UNM

FBS UNM English Department successfully held a Studium Generale (SG) or General Lecture online by presenting the new Consulate General of Australia Makassar, Ms. Bronwyn Robbins with the theme: Opportunities for engagement in the Australia-Indonesia's relationship on Thursday (09/09/2021).

Present Dean of FBS UNM, Prof. Dr.. Syukur Saud as the host of this SG, Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni of UNM, Prof. Dr.. Sukardi Weda who is also a lecturer in English and Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of UNM Prof. Dr.. Hasnawi Haris, who also opened the event. Also present are lecturers and students in the scope of FBS UNM English major.

As Chairman of the Department as well as concurrently the Chairman of SG and oz Australia alumni, Dr. Samtidar pointed out that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Australia are very important in terms of strengthening cooperation, especially in the field of education and it is expected that there will be real cooperation such as life skills training such as ESP (English for Specific Purposes) for lecturers and students majoring in ENGLISH UNM and the Australian Government.

In his presentation, the Australian Consul General explained how important Indonesia is in the eyes of Australia as a close neighbor and no less important, the Consul General also informs and invites students or youth to participate in the Australian Government's flagship programs such as Youth to Australia exchange (AIYEP), Muslim youth exchange to Australia and invites UNM lecturers to be able to join the S2 and S3 scholarship programs offered by the Australian government through the Australia Awards.
